Matthew is an Associate Lawyer with the firm and maintains a litigation-based practice which focuses on civil litigation matters. Specifically, his focus spans the areas of administrative law, insurance law, environmental law, construction law, and Aboriginal law. He also has a particular interest in appellate advocacy. His passion for litigation stems from his interest in both written and oral advocacy, and much of Matthew’s practice focuses on legal research and writing, including court submissions, opinions, and extra-professional publications. He has also represented clients at the Provincial Court of Newfoundland (Criminal Division), Provincial Court of Newfoundland (Small Claims Division), and the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador – Trial Division.
Matthew obtained his LL.M. focusing on Aboriginal law from the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, where he was a Law Foundation of Nova Scotia Millennium Fellow. He also holds degrees from the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Law and Memorial University.
Matthew is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association, and, outside of the office, has served on the board of various community organizations. He is the Director of Communications/Marketing for one of the largest winter festivals in Atlantic Canada. Matthew has also been published in the University of New Brunswick Law Journal, and has other articles either in consideration or forthcoming.
